About The Artist

My life-long passion for art and ultimately my career has allowed me to create over three hundred paintings of Palm Beach Island.  My passion began early in life where I was partially inspired by the lush beauty of the Victorian Village of Sea Cliff on the fabled North Shore of Long Island.

At the end of World War II, I was introduced to many wonderful art teachers from Manhattan.  These artists inspired me to attend Cooper Union in Manhattan where I studied fine art, commercial art, and architecture.

Along my journey I worked in advertising, and as an art buyer.  While at Redbook Magazine I was introduced to graphic design, fine art, and photography. Over the years I have worked in many mediums in addition to oil painting.  I have designed jewelry, fabricated stained glass, painted / refinished furniture, and sculpted stone and marble statues.

In 1961 I relocated to Fort Lauderdale where I worked as the first-ever Editorial Artist for the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun Sentinel.  It was during this time I met my future husband David Robinson Thompson,

David came to the Palm Beach Island Community in 1925 during the Flagler Era and I wrote his memoir titled PALM BEACH FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE, which led me to write several local historical books.  Afterwards I turned to capturing the beauty of the Island in what has become a unique fine art collection.  Though I have created abstract art, I have not painted local Palm Beach scenes as abstract art.  I ultimately have become known for my shadowing techniques of the exquisite architecture and gardens on island.

I was the founding owner of the HANGEN THOMPSON GALLERY in Via DeMario directly off of Worth Avenue.  In addition to my gallery work, I have completed many commissions for numerous Palm Beach residents.  In the process of painting iconic scenes of the island of Palm Beach and its many architectural structures, my paintings have been included on the cover of over 180 Palm Beach Real Estate Guides.

I am proud to have my work included in hundreds local and international collections.  Through my paintings and knowledge of the Palm Beach Island, I am known as THE PALM BEACH ARTIST and would describe my style as architectural realism.  To further my extensive collection of Palm Beach art, I often perform commission work of homes / architectural structures.  Another passion is to create animal portraits of my clients pets.
